Hummus

Store bought Hummus can be expensive and when you check out the ingredients, sometimes they are more than you bargained for. I was always a little afraid to try making it because the name just sounds like it should be complicated. Well I tried it and it’s not AND it tastes way better than any store bought one, plus you control the ingredients AND you can get creative with the flavors! Here’s a Basic Recipe to get you started!

Basic Hummus

1 15oz can Chickpeas (garbanzo beans) – drained and well rinsed

1/4c Fresh squeezed Lemon Juice

1/4c Tahini (you can usually find this by the peanut butter)

1-2 Garlic cloves – minced

2tbs Olive Oil

Seasoning to Taste (I use Emeril’s Bam that my husband mixes at home)

Sea Salt – to taste

In a Food Processor add Tahini & Lemon Juice and blend for about a minute, stopping and scraping the bowl halfway through.

Once mixture is creamy and well blended add oil, garlic, salt & seasoning. Blend together another minute, scraping the bowl halfway through. Add Half the Chickpeas and mix.

Once creamy, scrape the sides and add the rest of the Chickpeas. Continue blending until desired consistency is reached. This should take 1-2 minutes more.

If the Hummus is too thick you can add water 1 tablespoon at a time until it becomes creamy. Serve drizzled with a bit of olive oil and some seasoning. Enjoy!!
